Was This Even a Fight?

By: Tyler Jordan

This past weekend, the biggest Boxing fight happened with over 60 MIllion viewers watching on netflix. Jake Paul (10-1) vs one of the best ever Mike Tyson( 50-6) but was it worth watching and paying for it. In my opinion, it wasn’t because the fights before were 10 times better, but I’ll  break it down round by round and tell you what i think.

Round 1- They both started off slow playing passive and werent really throwing many punches and wasting energy which i thought was smart especially when Mike tyson is almost 60 he needs to save energy.

Round 2- Jake Paul came out more aggressive landing some good punches and started wearing out Mike which is smart that he didn’t waste all his energy tho.

Round 3-  They  both came out with a little more energy, but Mike found out he doesn’t have it like he used to and wore out quickly allowing Paul to lay some hard hits.

Round 4- They both went back passive but Paul was still laying some punches down beating on Tyson.

Round 5-  Tyson came out strong to start and guess what ran out of energy again allowing paul to beat up on him.

Round 6-  They both played passive just trying to save energy.

Round 7- Tyson came out swinging and landed some nasty punches but it was too late.

Round 8- Paul came out passive aggressive and finally defeated the legend Tyson

The judges came to the unanimous decision that Jake Paul won.

Personally, I think it was a waste of time and money to watch it. It wasn’t near as good as anyone thought and was a cuddling match when not fighting. And Jake Paul may have won but there 40 years apart I hope he could have beaten him.

Is The NFL Biased?

After the NFL recently released its most recent MVP rankings list, I have decided there might be some credibility to the fans of the NFL that think it is scripted. The list has Josh Allen number one, Lamar Jackson number two, Jared Goff number three, Jalen Hurts number four, and Patrick Mahomes number five. Now I really don’t have a big problem with the first three. I think they are all interchangeable. The one thing that really makes me wonder if the NFL is scripted or not is the fact that Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes are the four and five. While I do think Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback we have seen in the past decade, this does not excuse the fact that for most of the year he has had more interceptions than touchdowns. He still barely has more touchdowns now and we are in week twelve. Also, do not even get me started on Jalen Hurts. I can not stand how corny he is and how he always tries to drop inspirational quotes after they lose , but when will they end. They went from being 11-0 at the start of the year last year to being 8-2 on a cupcake schedule. They are not a playoff team and the reason is Jalen Hurts. He is not even projected to have four thousand passing yards which is really the bare minimum at this point for an average quarterback. Another problem I have with the NFL is how they will never include Kyler Murray in any conversations. He is for sure a top 5 quarterback this year based on stats and since the MVP is a quarterback award they might as well include him. He does sit sixth in the MVP voting, but I think a top three finish for him will give him the fire he needs to have to carry the team to a Super Bowl next season.

Road Trip

By: Alexis Dawkins

This summer I went on a road trip with my aunt and her best friend. This trip included a week of driving and stopping at different places on the east of the United States. Starting in Sumter we drove to Virginia to pick up my aunt’s best friend. We spent the night there and left first thing the next morning to head to Tennessee to go to a zoo with one of the only spotless giraffes in the world. This was fun but the giraffe looked like a horse with a long neck, very anticlimactic.

We then left and drove to Kentucky to spend the night. The next day we went and did 2 tours in the Mammoth Caves. This is the longest cave system in the world. Even though it was a long day of walking, a lot of squeezing, and an insane amount of stairs, it was my favorite part of the trip. It was pretty and the history behind it was insane because this cave is over 420 miles long. The entire thing was dug by hand.

After this we got in the car and drove for a few hours and spent the night in utah. This was just halfway to New York which was our main reason for the road teip. We spent the night in Utah and drove to  Buffalo, New York and went to the restaurant that inspired the road trip in the first place, Southern Junction. This was a place that my aunt saw on the news and had a big idea that we ended up doing. It was good but not my favorite food.

We spent two nights in Buffalo and went to Niagara Falls the next day which was another great part of the trip. We took a walk over to Canada and then went and had dinner. The next day we hopped back in the car and drove it to Pittsburgh to spend the night and then woke up to finish the drive to Virginia. We spent one last night there before heading home after a week-long road trip.

This trip was a great experience and a great way to spend part of the summer and I highly recommend everyone doing a road trip at least once in their lives.

My Next Step

By: Cooper Scott

The most important decision I have ever made happened just a few weeks ago. As a child, my parents raised me in church. However, as I have grown in age and maturity, I have realized my relationship with God was stagnant.  On September 15, 2024, I decided I wanted to take the next step in my faith and get baptized. I believe a lot of different people and opportunities have influenced me to take the next step. My parents, siblings, friends, and girlfriend have made a huge impact on me as my journey to getting to know the Lord. Over the years, I have been a part of a youth group at Trinity United Methodist Church, and I have also been a part of a bible study group every Monday morning for the past 7 years. I have been attending my church more regularly, and as well as other churches in the community. Developing a strong foundation has been essential for me and this journey.

As I have become more involved in church, I have constantly been hearing the Lord speak to me and tugging on my heart to take the next step. One reason I knew I was ready was because I became so eager to know more about Jesus and the Bible. Since taking the next step, I have had a different outlook on life and feel relieved in knowing I can bring all my troubles to Him. I know I have a lot to learn and will make mistakes, but I know He has my back. Since taking the next step I have dedicated my life to Jesus and strive to be the best Christian that I can. I strive to be like Jesus and am eager to due my duty as a Christian and spread the word.

Duck Hunting

By: Cooper Scott

I have a lot of hobbies, but I would have to say my favorite one is duck hunting. Most people don’t understand how much hard work and critical thinking goes into duck hunting. There are many factors that have to align to have the perfect hunt: wind direction, cold weather, right water levels, equipment, traveling, and scouting. There is no better feeling when a hard thought out plan comes together for a successful hunt when we all reach the limit. This is one of the reasons why I love duck hunting. Not only do the right factors have to align, but it takes certain qualities to be an avid hunter such as patience, dedication, diligence, awareness, preparedness, and optimism. These are all qualities that make me who I am today.

Another main reason I love duck hunting is the fellowship. When I duck hunt, it is usually a family affair. I get to spend quality time with my dad, brother, uncle, cousins, and friends doing what we all love. One of my favorite memories of duck hunting is last year when my older brother and I had to hold a spot or “hole” for us to hunt. We woke up at midnight, got in the boat and drove to the spot we were hunting. The land we hunt is public so many other local hunters tried to go to that exact spot, but we were there first. My brother and I bonded in the five degree weather waiting for our fellow hunters to come in the morning to hunt. It was very worth holding the spot because it was one of the best hunts we have ever had. We all killed the limit and I killed my first canvasback. Needless to say, all of our hard work paid off. I have been going out west to duck hunt since I was 8 years old, and I have made so many countless lifelong memories.

Fitness Watches

By: Andrew Howle

To begin with, fitness watches are a tool to help individuals monitor and improve their health and wellness. These devices track various metrics, including heart rate, steps, calories burned, sleep patterns, and, most specifically, stress levels. Many fitness trackers are equipped with GPS to record distance and pace during outdoor activities such as running, walking, and cycling. These watches link to smartphone apps to help people set personal fitness goals. Ultimately, fitness watches are not only about tracking physical fitness. They are an accurate tool for encouraging a healthier lifestyle to enhance performance and overall well-being. Fitness watches are one of the most underrated things a person can have.

There are many brands that people tend to buy in hopes of finding the right watch for them. These include Whoop, Garmin, Apple, Fitbit, Samsung, and Amazfit. Each of these offers unique tracking experiences for the user. My personal favorite is the Whoop 4.0. I have had this watch for a little over a year. It is a fantastic watch for people trying to get into a fitness lifestyle. Some standout features are blood oxygen monitoring, sleep coaching, five-day battery life, waterproofing, and dustproof. These features are unique to Whoop in terms of the watch’s accuracy. It strives to give accurate readings of athletes’ health and fitness to help them perform to new levels. Unlike any other fitness watch, Whoop is incredibly durable and can be used to perform daily exercises. I have personal experience playing football games, building roofs, and many other strenuous activities performed with the watch. I cannot recommend the watch further for athletes trying to reach personal goals.

In Conclusion, fitness watches are a staple of modern society, improving fitness worldwide. The Whoop 4.0 is a great way to get involved in fitness. I highly recommend buying one from the store.

Football

By: Owen Meyers

American football is more than just a game—it’s a symbol of strength, strategy, and teamwork. From Friday night lights in high school to the roar of NFL stadiums, football captures the heart of America like no other sport.

One reason football stands out is the life lessons it teaches. Teamwork is everything. No one player, no matter how talented, can win a game alone. The offensive line protects the quarterback, the running backs rely on blocks, and every player depends on their teammates to succeed. Football also teaches discipline and hard work. Players spend hours training, practicing plays, and learning from mistakes to improve every week. It’s about pushing through challenges and showing resilience when things get tough.

What makes football even more special is the strategy involved. It’s not just about brute strength—it’s like a chess game on the field. Coaches plan every play, deciding when to pass, run, or go for it on fourth down. Defenses study their opponents, figuring out how to shut down the best players. Quarterbacks have to read the defense and adjust on the fly. It’s a mental battle as much as a physical one, and the smartest teams often come out on top.

Football also brings people together. Whether it’s families cheering in the stands, friends gathered around the TV for the Super Bowl, or teammates bonding in the locker room, the sport creates connections. It’s about community, tradition, and passion.

In the end, football is more than just touchdowns and tackles. It’s about learning to work hard, think ahead, and trust your team. Millions of people sit down to watch football every weekend in the fall season. Millions of people put money on the games and it is the spark to their day. From the tailgates to that comfy couch, at your house, football is loved and admired. Football teaches valuable lessons like having grit and how to be an honorable man or woman. That’s why football isn’t just a sport—it’s the best sport in America.

Peaky Blinders is the Best Show on Television

By: Owen Meyers

Peaky Blinders stands as one of the finest television shows of the 21st century, catching audiences with its strong storytelling, powerful performances, and rich character development. Set in post-World War I Birmingham, the series revolves around the Shelby crime family, with the uniqueTommy Shelby at its core. What truly sets Peaky Blinders apart is its ability to build together complex characters, historical events, and a deep sense of atmosphere, creating a world that feels both familiar and entirely unique.

Peaky Blinders is a remarkable show because of its characters. One of the best examples of a flawed anti-hero is Cillian Murphy’s character, Tommy Shelby. Tommy is a cunning strategist and brutal leader who is incredibly appealing due to his internal conflicts with desire, loyalty, and PTSD. Despite his frequently morally dubious choices, viewers are compelled to support him because of his complex character, which is only surpassed by his emotional sensitivity.

Supporting characters like the fierce Polly Gray (Helen McCrory), the remarkable Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson), and the fiercely independent Polly Gray bring their own distinct energy to the show, making each one unforgettable. Polly, in particular, offers a maternal yet fierce presence, contrasting Tommy’s cold pragmatism with wisdom and emotional depth. Each character’s backstory is fleshed out, giving them motivations and desires that make them feel real.

The uniqueness of Peaky Blinders lies not only in its characters but also in its ability to juxtapose historical accuracy with fictional drama. The post-war setting, the rise of fascism, and the presence of real historical figures add layers of depth to the narrative. The blending of stylish visuals, contemporary music, and raw performances makes Peaky Blinders a standout show that consistently elevates the gangster genre. It’s a masterclass in storytelling, where each character is as layered and complex as the world they inhabit.

Tom Aspinall: UFC Fighter

By: Wyatt Meyers

One of the most cool fighters in the UFC heavyweight class is Tom Aspinall. He was born in England, and his great abilities, athleticism, and whole fighting style has helped him move through the ranks fast.   At a young age, Aspinall started practicing martial arts, following in his father’s footsteps as a ju-jisu instructor. He has grown into a skilled fighter over the years who can win in both stand-up and ground fighting.

Aspinall is a threat to anyone in the division because he is quick and practical for a heavyweight. While most fighters in this division depend on size and power, Aspinall combines speed and accuracy, giving him an advantage. He is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, so he is able to defeat his opponents if the fight goes to the ground. He also has violent boxing skills and is known for finishing fights quickly.

The match between Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones is one that fans dream about. Aspinall could be able to beat Jones, who is known as one of the best fighters of all time. First, Aspinall may be able to outpace Jones since he is younger and faster. Second, he can adjust to any plan Jones presents because of his quickness. Aspinall’s aggression may be too much for Jones, who has had trouble handling boxers who put pressure on him.

Aspinall has a chance to defeat a superstar like Jon Jones and win the UFC heavyweight title if he continues to improve while keeping his focus. Aspinall is the division’s future because to his combination of speed, skills, and drive. He has a chance to rank among the best fighters in the sport.
