Baseball

By: Cooper Scott

Baseball has been one of my favorite sports ever since I was a little kid. I started playing baseball when I was 4 years old t-ball of course. Whenever I got to coach pitch something I will never forget is we were in the playoffs and I hit a walkoff homerun against Bynum Insurance, and they were like the best team. My first year of kids pitch, my dad was the head coach, and our team was called Colonial Urgent Care. I was left handed so there is only an unlimited number of positions I can play. Ever since 9 and 10 youth baseball I have pitched and played first base, but my strongest ability in baseball has always been hitting. I always played baseball during the fall growing up as well. The next year I broke my leg and was unable to play b-team in the 6th grade, and I was very bummed out about that. 7th grade year was my first year of baseball at Wilson hall. We were very talented that year but our season came up short because of covid. My first year as J.V Coach Neil Moerson was our head coach, and I got best offensive player at the banquet at the end of the year. The next year I think I can safely say is the most fun I have ever had playing baseball. Luke Pederson, Jones Deschamps, Tyler Jordan, Slade Custer, and Peyton Price and I were all on the same team. We would have to run at practice every other day for the stupidest stuff, and we were also very good, probably the best J.V team I was on. My 10th grade year I went out for varsity, and unfortunately I got cut, but it was okay. I went back down to J.V. for the third year in a row, but I wouldn’t trade those three years for anything. I had a very successful season my 10th grade year, and decided to play for the Junior p-15s. I played for 2 summers in a row and the second summer we won the state championship, and I met a lot of new friends from different schools. My junior year I played varsity, and I did not get to play very much. Now we are on to this year, and I am looking forward to playing for the senior p-15s one last time this summer.

Duck Hunting

By: Cooper Scott

Duck hunting has been my favorite hobby since I was a toddler. The first word I ever said was duck, and I am so grateful that duck hunting has been my family’s tradition for 50 plus years. I remember when I had this Shirt with ducks on the back of the shirt and I used to wear it backwards so I could look at the ducks all day. I went duck hunting for the first time when I was 6 years old, and I shot my first duck when I was 7. I look forward to the opening day of duck season every year, and as soon as duck season is over duck depression sets in. My dad, brother, and I travel all throughout the midwest to go duck hunting. Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Kansas are usually the states we make it too. We usually get three or four trips out west anywhere from 3 to 6 days. We hunt public land so we are constantly battling other hunters to get to the hunting spot so we have to wake up very early or even spend the night sleeping in the spot the night before. Ducks are surprisingly smart so it takes a lot of preparation and hard work to have a successful hunt. First we have to find the spot we are going to hunt, typically a main lake point, an open hole in the woods, or the back of a cove or slough. Then we make sure we can wade the hunting spot and put out anywhere from 40 to 80 duck decoys which is very time consuming. Then we usually cut a few branches or bushes to blind up the hide so we are hidden better from the ducks. Next we have to get our guns, blind bags, and stools out of the boat and set all of this up where we are hunting. Then you have to go and hide the boat pretty far away from where we hunt and cover the boat in burlap until it looks like a big bush. After you do all of this you are waiting for shooting time and enjoy the hunt. Duck hunting will be my favorite hobby as long as I am alive.

Super Bowl Predictions

By: Cooper Scott

My Super Bowl predictions are the Chiefs are going to beat Jalen Hurts and the Eagles, also predict some of the betting lines. The first betting line is that the national anthem will go under 2 minutes. The opening kickoff will be a touchback. Taylor Swift will be shown on camera more than 4 times. I will also predict that the eagles will get the ball first. The first quarter on the opening drive of the game after the eagles get two first downs Jalen Hurts will throw an interception to Trent Mcduffie on the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes will get his first drive of the Super Bowl and take his team down the field and Harrison Butker will kick a field goal and make it. The eagles will get on offense once again and Jalen Hurts is going to throw a Touchdown pass to Devonta smith. The Chiefs are going to go three and out and that is the end of the first quarter. On the Eagles opening Drive of the second quarter Saquon is going to tote the rock all the way down the field and the Eagles will settle for a field goal. So with 9 minutes to go in the 2nd Quarter the score is Eagles 10 Chiefs 3. The Chiefs are going to have a long drive all the way down the field and will score a touchdown with Travis Kelce. Jalen Hurts will have 2 minutes and is going to go down the field and the eagles will settle for a field goal. The score at halftime will be 10- 13 Eagles. The opening drive of the third quarter the chiefs are going to go all the down the field and score a touchdown with Isiah Pacheco. The Eagles are going to throw an interception, and the and the chiefs are going get a field goal and go up 20 to 13. The Eagles are going to go three and out, and the chiefs are going to throw an interception, and there will be a big momentum swing. Saquon Barkely breaks a 40 yard touchdown run and that’s the end of the 3rd quarter. Both the Chiefs and Eagles next drives end with a three and out, and the Chiefs get the ball and Xavier Worthy scores a touchdown ,and the Eagles will get a field goal. So with 5 minutes left the score is 30-27 the eagles. The Chiefs will get the ball and come to a 4th and 11 and throw up a deep ball and get a pass interference. Patrick Mahomes will run for a touchdown and the Chiefs will go up 34-30. Jalen Hurts will choke and throw an interception and the Chiefs will win the Superbowl.

Turkey Hunting

By: Cooper Scott

Turkey hunting is one of my favorite hobbies. I enjoy doing it with friends and family and it never gets old. Enjoying God’s creation and getting out in nature will never get old, but the turkey hunting aspect is what has me hooked on it. Out of all of the hunting I do, turkey hunting is definitely the most challenging out of all the hunting I do. I have heard if a turkey could smell that you would never kill a turkey because they are already so smart. They can see so well if you ever get one coming to you, you have to be very still or they will see you. Turkey season is during mating season so a Male turkey (gobbler) is very aggressive during turkey, so I like to use turkey decoys. I have been very fortunate the last 8 years tagging out every season year which is killing three turkeys a season. I have never had the adrenaline rush I have then I do before I am about to shoot a turkey. There are three different species of turkeys in the U.S. An Eastern which is in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia that area. A Merriam which is up north the Dakota’s and around there. An Osceola turkey is in Florida. A Rio Grande turkey is in the west and south west, and they are the biggest turkey. I have never traveled to kill a turkey but I look forward to doing that in the future. One thing that is on my bucket list is to do the grand slam. A grand slam is when you kill all of the types of turkeys in one season. Turkey hunting is slowly getting outlawed year by year. The DNR is making rules after rules every year making turkeys harder to kill because the population is slowly dwindling. This year one of my turkey hunting goals is to shoot a turkey on public land, and this is something I have never done before. I have missed twice on public land, but never shot one. The countdown has begun for April 1st.

Boykin Spaniels

By: Cooper Scott

I remember when I was in Elementary school, I used to beg my parents for a puppy. In 4th grade, I got a Boykin Spaniel puppy for Christmas. I named her Millie; she is the most energetic and loyal dog I have ever met in my life. She sleeps with me every night, and always greets me at the door when I come home. My dad decided we were going to send her to school for obedience and to get trained to be a hunting dog. We got two years of hunting out of her until we decided we were going to get her bred to have puppies. On March 12th 2020, She had seven puppies. My brother, sister, and my mom all got a puppy. Miller, Mj, Phoebe, and Millie all run around and play everytime they can. Until one day Millie went to get groomed and jerked away from the groomer. Millie came home thay day and had no use of her back legs. We took her to the vet, and the vet said it was from the medicine she took. We waited a few days and noticed she progressively got worse. We took her to Cvets in Columbia and she had broken a vertebrae in her back and had to get surgery. She recovered very fast because she is so strong willed and energetic. She still chases deer and lives her normal life, but a little bit slower. Mj (Millie Jr.) is my brother’s dog, and he is the hunter. Mj was trained by the same trainer as Millie,

Except he knows hand signals. Miller, my mom’s dog, is the biggest one out of all of the puppies. He is the clumsiest and the most loving dog out of all of them. Phoebe is my sister’s dog and she is the smallest out of all the puppies and is definitely the meanest one. My family loves all of the dogs and they love us too. I’m so glad I begged for a Boykin Spaniel puppy in Elementary school.

My Next Step

By: Cooper Scott

The most important decision I have ever made happened just a few weeks ago. As a child, my parents raised me in church. However, as I have grown in age and maturity, I have realized my relationship with God was stagnant.  On September 15, 2024, I decided I wanted to take the next step in my faith and get baptized. I believe a lot of different people and opportunities have influenced me to take the next step. My parents, siblings, friends, and girlfriend have made a huge impact on me as my journey to getting to know the Lord. Over the years, I have been a part of a youth group at Trinity United Methodist Church, and I have also been a part of a bible study group every Monday morning for the past 7 years. I have been attending my church more regularly, and as well as other churches in the community. Developing a strong foundation has been essential for me and this journey.

As I have become more involved in church, I have constantly been hearing the Lord speak to me and tugging on my heart to take the next step. One reason I knew I was ready was because I became so eager to know more about Jesus and the Bible. Since taking the next step, I have had a different outlook on life and feel relieved in knowing I can bring all my troubles to Him. I know I have a lot to learn and will make mistakes, but I know He has my back. Since taking the next step I have dedicated my life to Jesus and strive to be the best Christian that I can. I strive to be like Jesus and am eager to due my duty as a Christian and spread the word.

Duck Hunting

By: Cooper Scott

I have a lot of hobbies, but I would have to say my favorite one is duck hunting. Most people don’t understand how much hard work and critical thinking goes into duck hunting. There are many factors that have to align to have the perfect hunt: wind direction, cold weather, right water levels, equipment, traveling, and scouting. There is no better feeling when a hard thought out plan comes together for a successful hunt when we all reach the limit. This is one of the reasons why I love duck hunting. Not only do the right factors have to align, but it takes certain qualities to be an avid hunter such as patience, dedication, diligence, awareness, preparedness, and optimism. These are all qualities that make me who I am today.

Another main reason I love duck hunting is the fellowship. When I duck hunt, it is usually a family affair. I get to spend quality time with my dad, brother, uncle, cousins, and friends doing what we all love. One of my favorite memories of duck hunting is last year when my older brother and I had to hold a spot or “hole” for us to hunt. We woke up at midnight, got in the boat and drove to the spot we were hunting. The land we hunt is public so many other local hunters tried to go to that exact spot, but we were there first. My brother and I bonded in the five degree weather waiting for our fellow hunters to come in the morning to hunt. It was very worth holding the spot because it was one of the best hunts we have ever had. We all killed the limit and I killed my first canvasback. Needless to say, all of our hard work paid off. I have been going out west to duck hunt since I was 8 years old, and I have made so many countless lifelong memories.

Stranger Things Review

By: Cooper Scott

Stranger Things is honestly one of the best shows I’ve ever watched and one of my favorites. To start off, the old school vibe attracted me to the show. Stranger Things is a very action packed netflix series with 4 seasons and the show will not let you down. The show consists of a group of teenage kids with supernatural powers that try and defeat vecna and the upside down. The characters are what really grab my attention as well. I can’t help but love the friendship between Mike, Dustin, and the rest of the group, this is what makes the show so good. Although we could never experience what they did in the show in real life, They feel like real people, and their struggles with growing up, dealing with school, and handling the insane situations they’re in are easy to connect with. Plus, Eleven, my favorite character, helped the friend group defeat the upside down with her telepathic super powers.and her journey of figuring out who she is really hits hard. The monsters and the whole Upside Down thing make the show never get boring ,and made me be addicted to the show. But what makes Stranger Things stand out for me is how it mixes all these intense, scary moments that kept me on the edge of my seat. With a cliffhanger after every episode I Just could not get enough of Stranger Things.  One minute, you’re scared out of your mind, and the next, you’re laughing or getting emotional over a scene in the show. The show doesn’t just rely on the things that make you scared; it actually makes you care about what happens to the characters. It’s rare to find a show that can balance all these details so well. I have watched all four seasons twice, but the second time I watched all four seasons in three days.

Team Dipper Kupp Stats from Week 5

By: Cooper Scott

I’m in a ten man point per reception league with my friends, and after week five. My record is three and one. First player is Justin Fields, my Quarterback, Fields threw for one hundred thirty one yards and two touchdowns. Fields was projected to have 20.2 fantasy points and he fell short of that with only 15.94 fantasy points.

Starting off with my running back one, Kenneth Walker lll. Walker had 14.6 fantasy points on 12 touches for nineteen rushing yards and 8 targets, 7 catches and 57 receiving yards. He fell short of his projection of 17.5 points and he finished as running back 19 over all. My running back 2 was James Connor. Connor had 19 touches for 86 yards. Connor was also involved in the passing game with 3 targets, two catches, and 14 receiving yards. Connor was projected 13.9 fantasy points and he met his projection of 14.0 fantasy points.

Now onto wide receivers, My wide receiver one last week was Garret Wilson

Wilson was projected to have 13.7 fantasy points, but Wilson bombed with 29.1 fantasy points.

Wilson was targeted 23 times with 13 catches for 101 yards and one touchdown. Wan’dale Robinson is my wide Receiver two, and Robinson had an okay week. Robinson was projected 13.0 fantasy points, and Robinson met his projection with 16.0 fantasy points. Robinson was targeted 9 times, and came down with 6 of the 9 targets with 36 yards and one touchdown. Robinson finished as the wide receiver 21 this week.

I started Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers as my flex this week. Wicks was projected to have 12.4 fantasy points this week, and finished with 4.0 fantasy points Wicks had 7 targets with 2 catches for 20 yards.

Onto with the defense and the kicker, I started the Vikings defense. The Vikings were projected to have 6.0 fantasy points and they ended with 18.0 fantasy points. The Vikings defense gave up 17 points to the  and the New York Jets had 3 interceptions, 3 sacks, and 1 touchdown. My kicker was Cairo Santos, he was projected 7.9 fantasy points. Santos finished with 6.0 fantasy points, and Santos had 1 field goal on 1 attempt and 3 extra points. That is a wrap for team Dipper Kupp Fantasy breakdown week 5. We will see you in week 7.

Overall my team played decent but not up to their full potential. It was not a very good weekend, and Team Dipper Kupp did not get the win. We are going to bounce back in week 6 with a win hopefully against Team Kamaracoop (Knox Buxton). I put way too much research and time into fantasy to not have a good year. I play the number 4 team this week, but I feel confident my team has what it takes to beat Knox. He is trash.
