Turkey Hunter Tips

By: Jones DesChamps

In the final quarter of the academic year, I have decided to introduce a new series. As the winter concludes and spring approaches, I hope to embark on a new and relevant topic for those interested. As the season starts on March 23rd, many turkey hunters throughout the southeast are impatiently waiting to kill their first long beard. In this quarter’s series, I hope to provide valuable advice and tips to any turkey hunters willing to listen. These bits of information may provide zero help to a more advanced turkey hunter, but these tips serve as the foundation for beginners. Once again, take this with a grain of salt as I am absolutely not a professional hunter or have ever claimed to be one.

This week’s tip highlights time and place. Obviously, any good hunter wants to beat their prey to its location. So, arriving at your desired destination thirty or forty minutes early is always a good idea. If hunting in the morning, you want to beat the sunrise with plenty of time to spare, such as to walk through the field or woods while it is still dark. If hunting in the afternoon, I really cannot provide much help. Turkeys can show up at any time or place, so beating a gobbler to its spot becomes a little more difficult.

You must remember that no matter where you are or when you arrive there, you want to limit your movement. Turkeys can detect the slightest movement, so it is necessary to camouflage yourself in either a blind or behind some sort of brush. Trees and logs can be very helpful in providing support for your back, as you may be stuck in a certain spot or position for a long period of time. If you were to need to adjust your position, generally, it is best to shuffle around while you are calling. This can somewhat hide the sounds of your movement, or even further disguise it as a bird. Obviously, if hunting on public land, you need to be aware of your surroundings, so as not to alarm or disturb any other hunters. Remember, when in doubt, use common sense to avoid being heard or seen. Turkeys have a sharp eye and an open ear at all times, so beware of every movement.

So there it is. This week’s tip is simple. Arrive earlier than you think. Use common sense. Be quiet. Limit movement. Be disguised. Be one with the turkeys.

The Irresistible Charm of Jones DesChamps

In this week’s edition of “A Sneak Peak into the Irresistible Charm of Jones DesChamps”, we dive into one of my personal favorite pickup lines. This line is good for many different situations such as introductions and even conversations over the phone. This pun is flattering, light hearted, and funny, but will surely capture the heart of your crush. This pickup line can be used to make a strong first impression, but can also be shrugged off if it is unsuccessful. Versatile pickup lines such as this one serve to light the spark between you and your future partner in an enjoyable and engaging way.

I’m no photographer, but I could definitely picture us together.

This unique line takes on a distinct role because many other pickup lines involve questions. This statement is short and sweet. When you are straight to the point and confident in what you are saying, it draws attention to your delivery. If said properly, this line is charming yet simple and can be a quick way to politely hit on the person you are attracted to. By using this phrase, you take the first step on your journey to becoming an “occupied” man. Once again, if you are ever in desperate need of contact information for the girl of your dreams, never hesitate to use this reliable line.

The Irresistible Charm of Jones DesChamps

For this week’s edition of Jones’s flattering pickup lines, I have chosen a one liner that has never failed throughout my many years of experience. As everyone already knows, my charm can be seen from miles away, but I have to admit that this pickup line has helped in attracting many gorgeous girls. Whether you need to break the ice with a beautiful young lady, or you need to dive a little deeper into the personality of your already known crush, this line is perfect for any occasion. Yes, hitting on women can be quite nerve wracking, but if this attention-grabbing line is used correctly, it takes most of the tension out of the situation.

Are you a parking ticket because you have fine written all over you?

One of the many advantages of using this line is that it yields a lot of different responses from a lot of different women.  Depending on the woman, some girls respond strongly by dishing out a compliment back to you. On the contrary, some chicks become shell shocked by your immaculate swagger which allows for many other different avenues for asking for a date. It is impossible for me to tell you what it’s like for women to not be in love with me, but I can guarantee you that this line will bring you one step closer to being the woman magnet that we all desire to be.

The Irresistible Charm of Jones DesChamps:

Through my 17 years of life, I have collected an endless amount of valuable knowledge. Amongst this information, possibly the most important, are the countless pickup lines that I have accumulated over the years. These one-liners can be used in various different ways and situations, most notably to create a spark between you and the girl of your dreams. Pick-up lines are perfect to introduce yourself in a humorous yet passionate tone to woo your future partner. On today’s episode, I will break down one of my go-to ice breakers to make all of the women fall in love with me.

Have we met before? Because you look like my next girlfriend…

Not only is this pickup line attention-grabbing, but it will also make all of the women laugh during your first impression. This allows for many different passages into conversation due to its open nature and can allow you to communicate further with this unknown woman. This opening does not come on too strong for your future lover, and it guarantees your spot into the heart of your crush. So, if you are in desperate need of a phone number for a pretty woman, do not hesitate to use this line.

Why was FSU Snubbed out of a Playoff Spot?

By: Jones DesChamps

In the midst of chaos during this college football season, the College Football Playoff Committee has caused uproar amongst loyal fans. As the final season of the four team playoff concludes, the committee has made its most controversial decision yet. By leaving an undefeated, power 5 conference champion out of the playoff picture, the committee has decided to exclude a flawless team from being crowned as one of the most deserving teams in the country. Although this point has been proven by the professional analysts as a proper decision, it is beyond evident that Florida State was cheated out of a chance at a national championship.

To begin, throughout the history of the college football playoff, no undefeated power 5 conference champion has ever been left out. Not only that, but it is the committee’s job to put in the MOST DESERVING TEAMS, not the best four teams. If it’s their job to put in the most deserving teams, then how is a team that hasn’t lost a game left out of the playoffs. Not only that, Florida State has neutral or away wins against Clemson, Louisville, and LSU, all three of which are ranked wins. If you believe that it is the committee’s job to put the BEST four teams in the playoffs, then history does not side with your answer. In 2015, the committee allowed Michigan State into the playoffs, a team who was clearly not one of the best four teams in the country but made it in because they deserved it. The same thing has happened with Cincinnati, Notre Dame, and TCU throughout history, by allowing bad, yet deserving teams into the playoffs. So, it’s evident that the committee does not care about who’s better, but they care about who’s the most deserving.

Secondly, a large reason that Florida State was eliminated from playoff contention was because of the season-ending injury that their star quarterback, Jordan Travis, suffered three weeks ago. Not only is it ridiculous to discipline a team for winning all of their games but punishing a team because of a player’s injury is unreasonable, too. It is completely outrageous to exclude an undefeated conference champion, who has won their last two games with a backup quarterback, from the playoffs. That quarterback, who apparently isn’t good enough, has gotten the job done. How is it appropriate to penalize a perfect team with over eighty scholarship players because of a wrong step taken by one of those players? Correct, it’s not appropriate. Yes, if injuries would have taken over a team, that’s one thing, but one player doesn’t lead a team to zero losses. Clearly, this team was cheated out of a chance to bring home a trophy.

So, as it’s blatantly obvious, the College Football Playoff Committee failed in doing their job and has robbed a deserving team of a chance at history.

Texas A&M kicks off 2023 Coaching Carousel.

by: Jones DesChamps

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, another college football coach is out of a job. Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M’s head ball coach, has been let go.. Although his buyout is over 77 million dollars, Texas A&M buried their wallet and decided to let their fraudulent coach walk. Jimbo, who has recruited at the highest level, has not produced the lopsided records that his university was hoping for. Due to his underwhelming performances, Texas A&M decided to explore their other options. However the question still remains; who does this prestigious university look to hire next?

The first realistic candidate for this high-paying job would be Dan Lanning. Simply put, Texas A&M is a better coaching job than Oregon is. Yes, Lanning has over-achieved at Oregon, but his efforts would be more fruitful at the higher level of SEC football. The timing would be difficult in the landing of this highly valuable coach, but if time is money then A&M has plenty of time to offer. Lanning is only in his second year at Oregon, but his success should grant him an offer at this job.

Secondly, sticking to their guns, Texas A&M should look after a veteran coach. That coach could be Mike Elko. Clearly, football is not the top priority at Duke University. Elko, if he were offered, would certainly jump on the bandwagon to take over the job with the Aggies. Elko, who has little to no recruiting impact, could completely change this irrelevant reputation if put in the right situation. Not to mention, the Blue Devil’s head coach made his claim to fame as the defensive coordinator at A&M. His history with this university may prove vital in landing this job.

Lastly, but certainly not least, would be the most interesting candidate, Lane Kiffin. No one controls Coach Kiffin. Every offseason, Kiffin is rumored to leave his position at Ole Miss and nowhere would be a better fit than Texas A&M. A&M is just a higher paying, more prestigious job than he has. His success as a Rebel has earned himself respect and recognition as one of the most explosive and high powered coaches in the country, and that’s exactly what the Aggies need. Kiffin would be the perfect coach to break through the barriers using A&M’s resources, so if the Aggies send an offer his way, do not be surprised to see this off-the-wall coach accept this offer.

Obviously, there are plenty of worthy candidates for this job, but who will the Aggies offer? Will it be one of these possible options, or will the Aggies find someone different? Only time will tell.

Don’t be a Tyler.

by Jones DesChamps

For all who are unaware, there are some college football coaches around the country who answer phone calls from callers on various different radio stations. Dabo Swinney, the head ball coach for the Clemson Tigers, is one of those coaches. On Monday night, Coach Swinney hopped onto Clemson’s flagship radio station, “105.5 the Roar”, to answer any questions sent in by callers. After answering the light-hearted questions of many questions, Dabo received a unique call from an angry caller.

This mysterious man was named Tyler, who states that he is from Spartanburg, SC. To say the least, he did not filter his concerns to his “favorite” team’s coach. During his four minute rant on the phone to Coach Swinney, Tyler asked many controversial questions and raised many eyebrows when talking over the coaching decisions that Mr. Swinney has made. During his harangue, he brought up the inappropriate subjects of why Coach Swinney was being paid 11.5 million dollars to have a 4-4 record, why he was too stubborn to change his coaching philosophy, and why his school’s relevancy has fallen off so drastically. This bandwagon fan claims to have followed the Tigers for years and wonders why Dabo has run his own team into the mud over the last 3 or 4 years.

Dabo, who is a proven winner and joyful leader, responded in a way that is unusual for this mild-tempered coach. Mr. Swinney responded to Tyler in a firm tone throughout his extended answer. During his response, Coach Swinney pointed out the fact that his teams have achieved 12 straight 10 win seasons which only 3 other teams have surpassed in the last century and a half. Also, he pointed out that he built his program up from ground zero and led them to 2 national championships in the last 7 years, which Clemson had not done in the history of its existence. He wrapped his speech up by stating that he loves his university, but he hates the fact that the “expectations are above the appreciation” for what he has done for his school. This response not only silenced the caller but caused him to hang up the phone. By defending his own and his players, Dabo Swinney has caused much uproar among major news companies and social media pages.

This begs the question: Were Coach Swinney’s remarks appropriate and correct? The simple answer is yes. As any good coach would do, he jumped to the defense of his personal strategy and his players. Would Kirby Smart, Nick Saban, or Deion Sanders respond the same way? Yes, so why is Dabo receiving so much criticism for his remarks?

Who is the best team in the BIG 10?

By: Jones DesChamps

In a group of teams that finds itself immersed in chaos nearly every college football season, this season is nothing out of the ordinary for the BIG 10 conference.  Although this conference is filled with as much anarchy as ever, this season could be even more abnormal than usual. Nearly every season the debate ensues over “The Game”, which includes the star-studded match up between Michigan and Ohio State, but this season may shake out a little differently. Will one of these teams continue to rise to the top of the Big 10, or will one of the other newcomers take over this prestigious conference.

To begin, it’s only right to talk about the tremendous success of the Buckeyes in the playoff era. These teams, led by Urban Meyer and Ryan Day, have produced nothing but wins. These Buckeyes, who have won the BIG 10 East 8 out of the last 9 seasons, certainly have to be the front-runner to win the conference. With a top 10 win against Notre Dame on the road this season, this explosive team looks to continue their success this season. Yes, this team’s rich history hints towards a conference championship this season, but the question at quarterback may be detrimental to this team’s final destination.

Michigan, on the other hand, is the highest ranked team in the BIG 10. No, this team does not have an impressive win this season, but this Jim Harbaugh led team is experienced on both sides of the ball. JJ McCarthy, the Wolverine’s quarterback, is on pace to be a top quarterback in the country this season. Michigan has not lived up to the preseason hype given to them nearly every year throughout this decade, but last season’s Michigan team won the conference and produced their first playoff berth. The Wolverines lack of a true challenge this year may bite them in the rear when they are forced to play ranked teams later this year.  I believe this team is hungry to win, but may not have what it takes to take home a trophy.

The last contender in the BIG 10, and maybe even the most talented team in this league is Penn State. Without sugar coating it, Penn State is the best team in their competitive conference. With an important game this weekend at the “Horseshoe”, this James Franklin led team looks to further their dominance this season. Drew Allar, one of the nation’s best quarterbacks, looks to guide the Nittany Lions out of Columbus with another W. The team in navy and white is highlighted by their stellar defense, as well. This well-rounded team will not only beat the top dogs in their league this season, but will reach the top of the mountain in the college football season, producing their first playoff berth.

Can the Gamecocks turn it around?

By: Jones DesChamps

Will there ever be a point during this season that South Carolina will be over .500?

Although South Carolina has continually obtained one of the most difficult schedules in college football over the last 3 seasons, South Carolina’s proven passing game and serviceable defense will guarantee their bowl eligibility this season.

Carrying a 2-3 record into their bye week this week, South Carolina has impressed the nation with their explosive offense. Led by senior quarterback Spencer Rattler, this high powered offense has exploded in the passing game. Xavier Leggette, the star receiver for the Gamecocks, is currently 3rd in the conference in receiving yards and isn’t stopping anytime soon. Discovering a hidden gem in the running game, Dowell Loggains looks to Mario Anderson to light a fire in the ground attack. Not to be forgotten, Luke Doty, who was a highly regarded dual-threat quarterback in high school, has been used in different ways at tight end, as well. This flexible member of the offense has also provided a spark for the guys in garnet.

Yes, this Carolina team has the weapons to win double digit games, but it all means nothing if they continue to play this arduous schedule… right? Wrong. There is good news for Gamecock fans. Coming off of their bye week, Carolina looks to host  a fraudulent Florida team who is 4-6 in their last 10 SEC games. Later in the season, they approach their easiest stretch of games  as they look to defeat Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M’s disappointing campaign. Following that, they play Jacksonville State and Vanderbilt, 2 notoriously bad football programs. They then host Kentucky and Clemson at Williams-Brice Stadium, a hostile environment for back-to-back rivalry games.

Clearly, South Carolina and Shane Beamer has a chance to change their losing culture cultivated over the last few seasons. The true question is this: will their difficult schedule wreak havoc on their record once again? I don’t think so. The Gamecocks have something to prove this season, and with their backs against the wall, they will start throwing knockout punches to unexpected teams.

Can Clemson squeak out a home win against Florida State this week?

by Jones DesChamps

Simply put, yes. Clemson has won the last 7 against the Seminoles, and the Tigers could keep that streak alive. Although Florida State certainly has a high powered offense and a keen special teams unit, their defense is subpar. The media has shined light on Jordan Travis, Keon Coleman, and Johnny Wilson, but no one will discuss the defensive problems with the road team this week.

This fraudulent defense ranks at 81st in opposing yards per game and 84th in opposing yards per play. Yes, the Clemson offense is up in the air, but it doesn’t take a phenomenal offense to dice up that type of defense. However they seem sloppy, this young Tiger offense ranks inside of the top 30 in yards per rush and the same in 3rd down conversions. Clemson not only has a chance this week, but may be able to overwhelm this FSU defense.

This is not the only reason, though. Clemson is hosting Florida State in Death Valley to which they haven’t lost to FSU at home since 2013. That, of course, was led by Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jameis Winston. Clemson still holds 11 straight 10 plus win seasons and seemingly never loses at home, losing less than 5 home games since 2015. With their backs against the wall, I believe the Tigers have a fighting chance to take down the Seminoles this week in dramatic fashion to enter their name back into the playoff hunt.
