Ranking my Classes Pt.2

By: Logan Mims

This weeks blog is part 2 of ranking my favorite classes from my favorite to my least favorite. So far I have Digital media as number 1, Engineering as number 2, and Senior Seminar at number 3. The three classes I have left are AP Bio, Brain Body and Balance (BBB), and AP Pre-Calc.

Ranked number 4 out of 6 is my 5th period class Brain, Body, and Balance (BBB). In this class we weight life on Monday Tuesday and Thursday. We don’t lift on Wednesday because it is a short scedual but we usually stretch on Wednesday and Friday is just out day off to catch up on all of the work from that week in our other classes. I actually do like this class it just isn’t in the top 3 because some days I really do not feel like lifting but I still have to. It is a pretty layed back class overall and we are aloud to talk with our friends so overall it’s a good class and I’m glad it’s on my scedual.

Ranked number 5 out of 6 is my 7th period class AP Pre Calc. This class isn’t ranked low because it’s one of those extremely boring classes. I actually like the class and enjoy my classmates and teacher in there. The work it just very hard. This is the first year that this class is a thing at Wilson Hall, but also a very new class overall. The ways the questions are asked are just different then most classes and it is much harder than any class I have ever taken. Usually math is my best subject but it has just been a little harder this year.    Lastly, ranked number 6 out of 6 is my 1st period class AP Bio. For some reason I just really do not like this class. It’s hard and really boring. Some people do enjoy the class but I guess I’m just not as interested in biology as some of the other people in my class are. I do like my teacher in that class so that is a plus and I sit beside my friends, but other than that there is nothing else good about this class.

 Ranking My Classes

This week’s blog is part 1 of me ranking my classes from my favorite class to my least favorite class. Since I have a study hall I only have 6 classes. My classes are 1st period is  AP Biology, 2nd period is engineering, 3rd period is senior seminar (English), 4th period is digital media, 5th period is weight lifting, 6th period I have study hall so that doesn’t count in my ranking, and 7th period I have AP Pre-calc.

Before I rank my classes I will just say how I feel about them overall. Overall I don’t feel like I have a hard schedule and I actually really enjoy almost all my classes this year.

Coming it at #1 is my 4th period class, digital media. For this class we have to make a video and post it every week and every other week we have to write a 350 word blog about anything we choose to write about. Digital media is my favorite class because it is very laid back. You kind of get to work on your own schedule which is really nice. On days where I don’t have anything to do it is a good time to get some of my homework or studying done.

Coming in at #2 is my 2nd period engineering class. I really enjoy this class because we get to work at our own pace. My teacher gives us our assignments on google classroom at the beginning of the week and then as long as they are done by the end of the week he has no problem, so the class is very chill, which I really enjoy. I also have some of my friends in the class so it is very nice to be able to talk to them.

Coming in at #3 is my 3rd period Senior Seminar class. I have never been someone who really likes English but I really don’t mind this class at all. I have a lot of my friends in this class which is great. The things we do in this English class compared to most are not as boring as the others.

Snow Day

By: Logan Mims

For this week’s blog I will be writing about the snow day.  Since I live in Sumter, South Carolina, snow days are very few and far between. But when we do get a snow day, it is always so exciting and I can not wait to get out and play in the snow. The week prior the weather was saying we were going to have snow, but it ended up just being sleet so I was not very hopeful for this time either.

During school I was in fifth period and I looked outside and it was actually snowing real snowflakes, not just sleet like the week before. I was so excited. It was later in the afternoon and I just got out of basketball practice and I realized that the snow was not really sticking so I did not really expect anything exciting.

It was that night and I looked outside and snow was completely pouring down and it was piling up everywhere and it was actually sticking to the ground. I could not believe it.

I had my best friend over to spend the night and we got to stay up late watching shows on the TV because we knew we could sleep in the next day. I woke up around 9 AM and looked outside to see that snow was everywhere, at least 2 inches. I really could not believe it. I went back to sleep for a few hours and woke back up around 11 and my friend and I got dressed in warm clothes and went out to play in the snow. We ended up going to our family friend’s farm where we went sledding and rode the Ranger. It was completely freezing, but it was still so much fun. We were out there for a few hours until the snow began to melt and then we came home. My mom had made a soup so whe ate that and then we watched a movie to end the night.

Top Mexican Restaurants

By: Logan Mims

On this week’s blog, I will be ranking Mexican restaurants in Sumter, South Carolina from my favorite to my least favorite. The restaurants I will be ranking are Yucatan, Mariachis, and El Paso.

Coming in at number 3 is Yucatan. Overall, I personally think Yucatan is the worst by far mainly because of how bad it makes you smell after eating there. The food also is not as good as the others because it’s just not as fresh. I do think that Yucatan had the best salsa out of the 3 restaurants but the queso is the worst. It just doesn’t have as much flavor. Lastly, the food at Yucatan is nowhere near as good as the food at Mariachis and El Paso. Overall I would rate this restaurant a 4/10.

Coming in at number 2 of my ranking of Mexican restaurants in Sumter is El Paso. A major negative to El Paso is the price. El Paso is extremely expensive for no reason, but El Paso does have really good food and really good cheese dip. El Paso also does not make you smell really bad after eating there. Everytime I go to El Paso I get the ACP and it is rice and grilled chicken with cheese dip on top and it is so good but it’s just so expensive. Overall I would rate this restaurant a 7/10.

And lastly, number one out of the top 3 Mexican restaurants in Sumter is Mariachis. Not only is Mariachis my favorite Mexican restaurant, I would have to say it is my favorite restaurant overall. I absolutely love Mariachis and since it’s my favorite I will be sharing my top 3 favorite dishes. My number 1 favorite dish is their soft tacos with everything on them,  they are just so good. My number 2 favorite dish is their grilled chicken quesadilla dipped in sour cream, it’s simple but delicious. Mg number 3 favorite item off their menu us their enchiladas with a side of rice. Mariachis also has the best cheese dip out of the 3 restaurants as well. Overall I rate this restaurant a 10/10!!!

My Favorite Christmas Movie

By: Logan Mims

This week, in honor of the Christmas season I will be writing about my top 2 favorite Christmas movies. Christmas movies are the best part about the holiday season and my favorite 2 are Home Alone and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Home Alone is definitely the best Christmas movie ever made and a lot of people would have to agree with that statement. It is a classic and it’s funny and suspenseful at the same time. The movie is about a kid named Kevin who accidentally got left home alone by his family when they went on vacation for Christmas. The whole movie these two guys, Marv and Harry, are trying to rob his house. He finds out they are coming and sets up tons of traps and pranks around the house to keep them from robbing him. This movie is overall so entertaining and I would have to rate it a 10/10.

My next favorite movie is, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This movie is also another classic but my favorite version is the newest version by far. The story line is the same but they change up the songs and I thought they did a great job. The movie is about this character named the Grinch and he hates Christmas. His plan was to ruin Christmas for all the Who’s in Whoville. So what he does is on Christmas night he dresses up as Santa Clause and goes to steal all the presents and Christmas decorations from all the houses. While he is doing this he runs into a little girl and he realizes that what he is doing is wrong and he apologizes to everyone. After this the Grinch becomes nice and loves Christmas and he becomes friends with all the Who’s in Whoville. Overall I rate this movie a 8/10.

Top 3 Fast Food Restaurants

By: Logan Mims

In this week’s blog, I will be writing  about and rating my top three favorite fast food restaurants in Sumter, South Carolina. We don’t have that many options to choose from, but some of them are still pretty good.

Coming in at number 3 of my top 3 favorite fast food restaurants in Sumter is Mcdonald’s. I’ll start off with their ice cream. My go to ice cream dessert from there is an M&M mcFlurry. The ice cream is soft serve and it is so good with the M&Ms in it. Their cheeseburger is also pretty good. I usually like to get ketchup cheese and pickles on my burger from there and they are always pretty good. Some people don’t like their chicken nuggets but I honestly think they are good especially with ranch or sweet and sour sauce. Lastly, their fries, I would have to say Mcdonald’s has the best fries out of all the fast food restaurants. They are always hot and crispy and have the perfect amount of salt on them. Overall, I would rate Mcdonald’s a 6/10.

My second favorite fast food restaurant in Sumter is Zaxby’s. I love to get chicken fingers and fries from there along with a piece of their buttery, crispy bread. I personally think the best part about Zaxbys is their sauces. They 100% have the best ranch out of any fast food restaurant you could find and their Zax sauce is also really good. Overall, I would rate Zaxbys a 8/10.

Lastly, my favorite fast food restaurant in Sumter is Chick-fil-A. I feel like that is so basic but they have such a big variety of different things you can get. My favorite thing from Chick-fil-A is their mac & cheese. It is personally my favorite mac & cheese I’ve ever had. I also really love their chicken nuggets and they gave such a big variety of sauces to choose from. chick-fil-A‘s fries are also delicious. Overall, I would rate Chick-fil-A a 10/10.

Favorite Vacation Spots

By: Logan Mims

Number 1 on my top 5 places I have vacationed to is Garden City Beach, South Carolina. I know this is not the most exciting place, but it’s not necessarily the place but it the the trip itself. Every summer, my dads side of the family goes to the beach together for a week and we call it Mims Family Beach Week. It is truly one of my favorite weeks out of the whole year. My dad has 2 sisters Aunt Natalie and Aunt Ashley, and they each have 4 kids. Aunt Natalie has 4 girls who are all close to me and my siblings age and then my Aunt Ashley has 3 boys and 1 girl. They are all younger than us, but we still love them being there. My dads mom, Mimi, is the one who organizes the trip every year. She absolutely loves everyone being able to get together every year!

The house we rent is on the inlet so every year we rent battle boards and kayaks for all of us to play with out in the water. There is also a pool which is very convenient for the younger kids so the parents can keep a close eye on them. One of my favorite things about family beach week it at night when all the younger kids go to bed and the bolder kids stay up and play cards and board games with the adults.

My absolute favorite thing we do at this tradition we started 7 years ago which is the Mims Family Talent Show. One night out of the week, everyone gets to participate in the talent show. The acts are not something that was just planned the night before. We all have this planned weeks before the trip so it is always so fun to participate and watch everyone else’s acts. Our beach week might not be located in the most exciting place but it is so special to our family and is always such a good time. Overall I would have to rate Mims family beach week a 10/10!!!

Top Places I’ve Visited: Guatemala

By: Logan Mims

Number 2 on my top 5 places I have  visited was Guatemala. Guatemala was not just a normal trip, it was a mission trip that I went on with my mom. We went with Christ Community Church through an organization called 4:10 Bridge. Guatemala was absolutely beautiful! The place we visited in Guatemala was a community called El Triunfo. It was a very small community, and they all knew each other very well. They were so kind, welcoming, and grateful for what they had. While visiting we performed many different tasks. We farmed, played with the children, cooked and many more things.

The farming in Guatemala was different than any farming I have seen. Their main crop was coffee bean plants which was also what Guatemala is known for. Guatemala is very mountainous, and they plant their coffee plants up the mountains and it is just so interesting to see how they do it let alone do it yourself. The people in El Triunfo were so kind to let us plant some of their coffee plants and they were just so patient with us and it was just such an amazing experience!

Another thing we did while we were in the community was simply bonding with the children. This was my favorite part because the children were so kind and grateful. The kids never looked unhappy, anytime you looked over at them they were smiling and laughing with each other. We colored and played soccer with the kids and we also did some fun Bible games with them as well that they absolutely loved.

One of the last things we did was help the ladies cook a meal. They cooking there is way different than it is here. There kitchens are nothing like ours are back at home so it was so interesting to see these people cook in such a different environment then we are used to. When the ladies cook they are just cooking for their family. They all get together and cook a meal together for almost all the families in the community and it was so awesome to see that.

Overall Guatemala was such an amazing trip and I would highly recommend going on a mission trip to Guatemala. It will change your life. Overall I give this experience a 10/10!!

Best Vacation Spots

By: Logan Mims

              Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Number 3 on my top 5 favorite places I have visited is Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Jackson Hole was absolutely beautiful. Every direction almost looked as if you were looking at a painting. There were a lot of mountains and trees and the snow on top of the mountain almost looked fake. I was just remarkable.

I think Jackson Hole, Wyoming would be a good place to visit because there were just so many different activities and attractions. You can go horseback riding, visit YellowStone National Park, hiking,  white water raft, and so many more different activities and adventures.

My favorite thing I did while my family and I were in Jackson Hole was when we went to Yellowstone National Park. We went for a full day and we had a tour guide to show us the most popular spots and give us some interesting facts about the park. We went hiking and learned about some really beautiful lakes. We also saw a lot of different animals like bison, elk, bears, moose, and different kinds of birds. It was so cool to see all of these different animals and attractions because it is all so different compared to the south.

Another one of my favorite activities was horseback riding. It was not just normal horseback riding, the horses took us on a trail up the mountain. The view was so amazing and nothing like I had ever seen before. It was just such a unique experience and it was so much fun.

My last activity was white water rafting. White water rafting is one of my favorite things to do, and getting to white water raft in Wyoming was so awesome. The lake we were white water rafting on was surrounded by mountains and trees so not only did I get the fun experience of white water rafting I also got to look at an amazing view while doing it!

Top Vacation Spots: Banff

By: Logan Mims

Number 2 out of the top 5 places I have vacationed would have to be Banff, Canada! Banff was without a doubt the most beautiful place I have ever gone on vacation to. It was just so beautiful and so different from what I am used to. The weather was cool, and there was always a slight breeze. We went during the summer so there was no snow, so the weather was cold but not too cold: it was perfect. Not only was the weather perfect but the views were unbelievable. Everything was just so beautiful.

One of my all time favorite things that we did in Banff was when we went to visit Lake Louise and Lake Morain. The view was like nothing I had ever seen before. The easter was crystal clear and was slightly blue and they were surrounded by trees and mountains. At Lake Louise, you could also hike up what mountain so you could see the lake from a taller view so that was really fun.

Another fun activity that we did was the raft tour. We were in one of the blow up boats that are used for white water rafting, but the water was calm. We went down a river and we had a guide who would tell us about all the different mountains and different sites surrounding us. Not only was it informational, but it was just an amazing experience because the view was remarkable.

My last favorite thing that we did was exploring downtown. We rented bikes for the day and we rode around downtown and went to all the different stores. It was very interesting to see the difference in the stores compared to how they are in the United States. We also ate at some really delicious restaurants. Banff was so amazing and I would definitely recommend taking a visit.
