Summertime

By: Mary Carter Smith

Summer is my favorite time of the year. It is so much better than winter for multiple reasons. One being you are out of school. School causes a lot of stress such as grades, studying, practices, waking up early, the list could go on! I also am not the biggest fan of the cold.I hate having to wear a jacket or sweatshirt everywhere I go because it is so cold outside. During the summertime you can put the boots, hats, gloves, scarfs, jackets all up! Warm weather also makes outside activities more enjoyable. Summer also means longer days and more time to be productive and social. A highlight of it being summer is Pelican Snowball opens back up! Snowcones are my favorite sweet treat especially from Pelicans. I usually get superhero which is blue raspberry and cherries mixed together. Ten out of ten would recommend it to anyone. My favorite thing to do during the summer is go to the beach. Most of the summer I usually go to my beach house in Isle of Palms, South Carolina. My family has a house on the marsh which is my favorite view. I love hanging out on our dock and going on our boat. Tubbing would probably be my favorite summer activity. I love the fear of falling off the tube and holding on as tight as I possibly can to try to stay on. Another fun summer activity is beach days. I love laying out on the beach. The breeze is always so nice and the beach is always relaxing. My favorite thing to do while on the beach is swim in the ocean. Some people are scared of the ocean. I personally love it and am not scared of sharks or other creatures that most people are. When the end of the summer comes around I get upset but then remember summer will be back again.

Beach or Mountains

By: Adelaide Eaddy

When thinking of where to go for your next vacation, the question may come up of where to go. The common places people may choose from is the beach or mountains. When planning a trip, I would think about the months I would be going, and I would also think about what I would  be doing while being on the trip. The season would be the last thing I would rank it with while planning a trip.

When planning a vacation the first thing to think about is the time of year and what you will be doing. For the time of year, if it is in between the months of March and August I would pick the beach. If it was between the months of September and December I would pick the mountains., but if I was given the opportunity to go to a tropical beach during this time frame, I would pick the beach over the mountains. So thinking about what I want to do during these months, most of the time I would pick the beach over the mountains.

The next thing I would consider is what I would be wanting to do while there. If I wanted to have a cozy, chill vacation, I would pick the mountains, but if I wanted to relax and enjoy the sunshine, I would pick the beach. In this case I would pick the beach because I would rather sit on the beach and do nothing over sitting in the house doing nothing. So in this case, I would again pick the beach.

The last thing that I would put into consideration is what season I would be going. Spring and summer are probably the best times to go to the beach because it is getting warmer in the spring and it is definitely warm in the summer, so it would be the perfect way to relax. In the fall I would probably pick mountains because when you think of fall you don’t think of the beach you think of it getting cooler outside and the leaves changing. And lastly, for winter I would be in between the beach and mountains for where I would pick, because it would depend on where we were going. If I was given the option between going to a beach where it is cold or the mountains, I would pick the mountains, but if I was given the option between a warm beach in the winter or the mountains, I would pick the beach.

In conclusion, I would pick the beach over the mountains any day. The only day I would pick the mountains is if the beach is cold.

Top Travel Destinations I’ve been to

By: Adelaide Eaddy

Out of all of the places I’ve traveled to, I have a list of my favorites that I’ve been to in the past two years. In the past two years I’ve traveled to Harbour Island, New York City, and Rosemary Beach. These three places have been put at the top of my list of recommended travel destinations.

The first destination is Harbour Island, Bahamas. This place is definitely my favorite place I’ve traveled to. In Harbour Island, I went to the beach most of the time, but I also explored the islands on a boat charter that took us to swim with sea turtles, places to snorkel, and beaches to look for conch shells. If someone asked me what to do in the Bahamas, I would tell them to definitely do the boat charter. The guy who took us asked us what we wanted to see and he took us to every place we asked. That was the best thing I did while I was there.

The second destination I would recommend is New York City. New York is a great place to go if you want to take a short trip that you want to always remember. New York is known as the city that never sleeps which I can second that famous phrase. When I was there I went on a boat cruise around new the Statue of Liberty, shopped a lot, and went to a Broadway show. The Broadway show I went to was “The Lion King,” and I would highly recommend it. I would also recommend staying at the Plaza while in New York because everyone there made sure that we had the best stay possible.

The last travel destination I would recommend is Rosemary Beach, Florida. Rosemary Beach is located on 30A that is along the Gulf of Mexico. While you are there, I would recommend  going on the beach, of course, and I would recommend going to other towns surrounding it. When I went, my family and I rode bicycles from Rosemary Beach to Seaside and it was beautiful. I would recommend stopping at all of the cute beach shops along 30A as well.

I have made some really good memories in these three places, and I would definitely recommend going to one of these three places at least once.

Vacation Spots: Exuma

By Logan Mims

Number 1 out of the top 5 places I have vacationed is Exuma, Bahamas. I went during April 2022 and it was absolutely beautiful. The water was so clear and the weather was just perfect. There was always such a nice breeze. We stayed in a house on the beach that had a pool. I could not have asked for the house to be at a better spot!

There were so many different activities you could choose from. We swam with sharks and sea turtles, snorkeled, ate at so many delicious restaurants, and chartered a boat. My top 3 favorites were swimming with sharks, chartering a boat, and snorkeling.

Swimming with sharks was just so thrilling! The sharks we swam with were sand sharks, so they are not known to bite, so it was pretty safe. Even though it was said to be safe, it was still very nerve racking.

The next activity is the boat. Our guides were Captain Sugar and his first mate Kenny. They just make the experience so much better. They were locals so they knew where all the hot spots were. They would take us to this place called the Chat and Chill. It had a beach volleyball court, hammocks, picnic tables, and a place to get food and it was also on the beach. We went there almost everyday with Kenny and Sugar. They also took us to caves we could swim in and really tall rocks to jump off of into the water. It was just such an amazing experience overall!

The last activity was snorkeling. We could snorkel outside of our house because there was a reef which was really cool! Kenny and Sugar also took us to some really awesome spots. I found so many big shells and multi-colored fish. It was nothing like I had ever seen before. Overall I would rate Exuma a 10/10!!
