Making a healthy diet

By: Luke Pedersen

When it comes to a good healthy diet plan, there are a few key things to keep in mind. Firstly, it’s important to include a variety of fruits and vegetables in your meals. They provide essential vitamins , minerals, and fiber. Aim for at least five servings a day.

Secondly, incorporate lean proteins into your diet, such as chicken, fish, steak, or beans. These are great sources of protein without the extra saturated fats. Also, whole grains like brown or white rice, rice cakes, and whole wheat bread or even bagels are excellent choices for carbohydrates, as they are rich in fiber and nutrients.

Lastly, don’t forget about healthy fats! Include sources like avocados, nuts, and olive oil in moderation. These fats are beneficial for your body and can help keep you feeling satisfied. Remember, it’s all about balance and portion control. And of course, staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day is essential.

Staying consistent is the hardest part of this journey, as preforming simple tasks, such as just waking up on time can be the most challenging at some times. Having balanced calories, carbs, proteins and fats should lead you on the right path to a healthier body and healthier lifestyle.

Blake’s Food Review-Yucatán

 By: Blake Van Patten

Week one of Blake’s food reviews, we will be looking at a popular Sumter spot Yucatán. Yucatán has many positive aspects. This is a place that isn’t somewhere where you can eat multiple times a week, but a place I crave at least three times a month. It’s a quick and easy spot for me and my friends or even my family after church. They have many choices of Mexican food. Normally, I get a chicken and cheese quesadilla or cheesesteak burrito. Not only is the food good but the service is great. I’ve never had a rude server and they normally get my order right. The food is always out ASAP. One of the biggest positives of Yucatán is that it is cheap. Yucatán has reasonable prices and normally I pay around $10. Yucatán also has a good location because it is right by Tj Maxx and five below. This offers the opportunity for my friends and I to be able to walk there after we eat if we are bored. Overall I give Yucatan an 8/10.

Cooking with Luke B

By: Luke Banar

How to make my favorite homemade chicken Alfredo.

Ingredients:

  • Pasta
  • Chicken thighs or breasts
  • A big pot
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Half and Half creamer

First take the chicken breasts or thighs and cut the excess fat off of them. You can use as much or little chicken as you like. Take a large pot and bring it to a boil. Once the water is boiling add the chicken and cook until 180 degrees.  Then take out the chicken and cut it up using a knife and put your pasta in the same pot that your chicken was in and cook for 10 to 12 minutes. After the pasta is cooked you strain the water out of the pot and turn the heat down and add in your pasta and cut up chicken. Add your half and half gradually to thicken up the sauce. Then add the  Parmesan cheese and stir constantly to keep it from burning, after the Alfredo has thickened up and turn off the heat. Finally grab a bowl to fill with the delicious chicken Alfredo and if you are feeling fancy some parsley on the top will do the trick.

Top 5 Wilson Hall Lunches

Wilson Hall’s lunch menu has a wide diversity of food available every day, but which is the best? Today I will give the most factual list of the lunches to show what is the best.

Starting at number 5, I’m putting Twin Dragons. Twin Dragons is a decent choice of food but is significantly dropped due to the moisture that builds up the containers, making the food wet.

At number 4, I put Moe’s. It has a substantial increase in quality but suffers the same problem as Twin Dragons and makes moisture on the lids.

Now starting in the top 3, I give the spot to Shoney’s. Shoney’s food is a humongous increase in quality with a wider variety in food but has its days where the food is not as good, resulting in its placement at number 3.

Ranking in at number 2, KFC is being placed. While KFC only has chicken, it makes up in its taste and quantity of the food.

Starring at number 1, to no one’s surprise, is Chick Fil A. Like KFC, Chick Fil A only has chicken but has the best quality and quantity of food out of the rest of the picks.

This is the definitive list of the top 5 lunches at the school, if you disagree then tell your top 5 and give some feedback.
