Football

By: Owen Meyers

American football is more than just a game—it’s a symbol of strength, strategy, and teamwork. From Friday night lights in high school to the roar of NFL stadiums, football captures the heart of America like no other sport.

One reason football stands out is the life lessons it teaches. Teamwork is everything. No one player, no matter how talented, can win a game alone. The offensive line protects the quarterback, the running backs rely on blocks, and every player depends on their teammates to succeed. Football also teaches discipline and hard work. Players spend hours training, practicing plays, and learning from mistakes to improve every week. It’s about pushing through challenges and showing resilience when things get tough.

What makes football even more special is the strategy involved. It’s not just about brute strength—it’s like a chess game on the field. Coaches plan every play, deciding when to pass, run, or go for it on fourth down. Defenses study their opponents, figuring out how to shut down the best players. Quarterbacks have to read the defense and adjust on the fly. It’s a mental battle as much as a physical one, and the smartest teams often come out on top.

Football also brings people together. Whether it’s families cheering in the stands, friends gathered around the TV for the Super Bowl, or teammates bonding in the locker room, the sport creates connections. It’s about community, tradition, and passion.

In the end, football is more than just touchdowns and tackles. It’s about learning to work hard, think ahead, and trust your team. Millions of people sit down to watch football every weekend in the fall season. Millions of people put money on the games and it is the spark to their day. From the tailgates to that comfy couch, at your house, football is loved and admired. Football teaches valuable lessons like having grit and how to be an honorable man or woman. That’s why football isn’t just a sport—it’s the best sport in America.

My Favorite Things

By: McKenzie Gray Mills

This week on my favorite things, I’ll be talking about Wilson hall football. This is super special this week because we are headed to state for the second year in a row. Ever since I was little this has held such a special place in my heart. Friday nights have always been designated to Spencer Field. From being in elementary school and getting to be a part of mini cheer. To it being my last year here and getting the honor to be on homecoming court. Every Friday night lights have such a special meaning.

Last week there was a big group of us supposed to leave for our young life trip on Friday. When we found out we would be missing our last game on Spencer field we were distraught. We thought of every single way to get up there late and nothing was working out. Once it got to Friday we just accepted the fact we would never see another football game at Wilson hall as students. It was until one of the senior boys standed up to speak at the pep rally about how it was their last time all playing together. One of the moms heard this speech and made the decision that we weren’t going to miss this game. We went to the game and all hung out after then woke up three hours later to make the drive up to camp. This is an example of just how special this organization is to all of us.

This Saturday will be the last time us seniors get to bang the drums while being on defense. It will be the last time we watch our friends play a sport they love together. It will be the last time we stand in the student section together. These lasts are becoming very real, but make us so very grateful Wilson Hall makes these things so special.

Why is Football the Best Sport

By: Andrew Howle

Millions of people worldwide participate in sports and are considered somewhat athletic. However, what sport should be considered a priority of all these athletes? American football is the best sport an athlete can play due to its significant benefits. The benefits reaped from participating in this sport are the exorbitant friendships formed, learning the true value of teamwork, the ability to become a leader, and the long-sought-after trait of being hardworking.

One of the most significant aspects of football is the sense of belonging it fosters among the team members. Football creates a brotherhood among the players, a bond that is unbreakable even in the face of triumphs and heartbreaks. The sport is not about individual prowess; it’s about the team’s unity and collective effort. This sense of belonging and the memories created on the field are lifelong.

Football is a sport that nurtures leaders, not followers. It’s a game of strong, courageous individuals who can make or break a team. Without these leaders, how could a team ever win? Football pushes young men into leadership roles, teaching them to take charge in challenging times. This experience can be a powerful inspiration for their future endeavors.

Football, as the best sport, instills the value of hard work and resilience. Players often face tough and gritty situations during the season, from defeats on the field to injuries that require recovery. Yet, they bounce back, proving their determination and commitment. This resilience developed in football can empower players to overcome life’s challenges.

In conclusion, football is definitely the most well-rounded sport an athlete could play to gain benefits that will serve them well later in life.

Which Sport is more fun to play: Football or Baseball?

By: Clark Kinney

For me, this is a really tough question to answer because I have played both sports and loved both sports. There’s so many different aspects of them whether it be watching them, playing them, or practicing them which makes my decision even more difficult. Let’s walk through these different aspects and I will share with you my final decision.

Watching football is awesome and is practiced by millions of Americans each year. It is fast-paced, fairly easy to understand, and overall very entertaining. Even if you have never played a down of football, you most likely find it fun to watch and have an idea of what is going on. On the other hand, baseball less fast-paced, a little harder to understand, and can be less entertaining if you have not played it and/or do not find it interesting. For me, I understand the ins and outs of baseball and find it very fun to watch. I do understand that baseball can be slow, but I love watching the different hitters with their different strategies face all the pitchers trying to fool them. It’s just so fun to watch and very interesting in my opinion.

There’s nothing quite like a Friday night football game. There’s something about playing with your guys and coming together as one that is in a way that is unlike any other sport which is so fun to me. Football games are very emotional and you can act on your emotion. Baseball games can be extremely fun to play but also can be extremely boring. A big game against a big rival is hard to beat especially if you are playing well. Baseball games can get very emotional like football but if you act on your emotion in baseball it probably will not end well.

Football practice is not fun to say the least. Early season football practice in the South Carolina heat and humidity makes you question your love for the sport. However, there is something to be said about overcoming those practices and playing on Friday nights. Baseball practices are fun to me because I love hitting and taking ground balls, so I look forward to going to baseball practice most days unlike football.

This is a very, very close call but I think overall baseball is more fun to me because I have played it so much and find it so interesting. I do think the average person would find football more fun though.
